Frequently Asked Questions
Chiropractic care kick starts and supports the body’s natural the ability to heal itself. At Active Edge Chiropractic we combine traditional treatment methods with massage, physical therapy, and nutritional counseling to create our own brand of cutting edge chiropractic care.
An adjustment is a manipulation to any joint in the body that is misaligned or fixed within its normal range of motion. Joints that can be adjusted include but aren't limited to your feet, spine, elbows, hips, fingers, clavicles, and even the joints in your head. There are also a variety of techniques and tools that can be used to deliver adjustments depending on the doctor’s and patient’s preference.
Absolutely! Chiropractic care has been proven to be very safe and is a non-invasive healthy alternative to many conventional western medicine practices. A 4 year study of 21,743 people found that patients whose primary physician was a chiropractor experienced 43% less hospital admissions, spent 58.4% fewer days in hospital, underwent 43.2% less outpatient surgeries and spent 51.8% less on pharmaceuticals than average Americans.*
Let us give you the edge you need to reach optimal health through optimal function.
An adjustment is not typically painful and many people feel immediate or substantial relief after an adjustment. Occasionally after an adjustment, patients experience soreness similar to that of a good workout. This soreness is typically short-lived and decreases as your body adjusts to its new position.
No. At Active Edge Chiropractic, it's our goal to return you to health as quickly as possible. Many patients elect to come back for weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly adjustments because they feel great when they are treated on a regular basis. Patients report increased energy, greater range of motion, and decreased pain with regular preventative care.
We recognize the importance of determining the cause of injuries rather than simply treating the symptoms. We consider your immediate complaints as well as any contributing structural asymmetries, muscular imbalances, altered firing patterns, and nutritional deficiencies that may be preventing you from healing properly. This comprehensive approach allows us to treat our patients efficiently and effectively to help restore and maintain optimal health through optimal function.
In addition to our cutting-edge chiropractic clinic, we offer educational doc talks, fitness classes, personal training services and community outreach programs. Health is our passion and we love sharing it. Let us be your one-stop-shop for healthy living.
At Active Edge we challenge the status quo for not only chiropractic care but for health care in general. Though we do accept select insurance plans, we are a largely insurance free office because you deserve to be treated like an individual, not a statistic. We recognize that as medicine has become more compartmentalized, there were fewer opportunities for you to be viewed as an individual with a unique story. We believe that this is a big part of the health care crisis underlying the health crisis in this country, so it’s our mission to fill that void and provide comprehensive whole body care to help you achieve your fullest health. We also believe that you should seek and receive care for and information about everything that is contributing to your current complaint simultaneously for better, faster, and longer lasting results. In that way we can treat you the way we would want to be treated. And we believe that your health is more important than the bottom line of your insurance company. Due to ever-tightening insurance restrictions, in 2015, we had to make a decision. Do we protect our reputation and stand up for what we believe or do we conform to insurance companies’ sick care restrictions? We chose to continue treating our patients as people, rather than numbers and statistics. To help make care affordable to anyone who may be struggling, we offer a variety of programs, payment plans, and a generous self-pay discount. Our decision has been received with more great reviews and gratitude for the unsurpassed improvements our patient's experience. They tell us that because they gain so much invaluable information that they can apply for life that the cost of care in our office is not an expense, but one of the greatest investments they’ve made. We are so proud to be part of the empowerment of Columbus to live better.
Have you ever been frustrated with your health insurance, either not covering what you would have expected it to cover or once you thought something would be covered it wasn’t?
We quickly realized that insurance companies did not appreciate this approach. You use life insurance after you’re dead. And health insurance companies will only let you use your coverage when you’re sick.
That’s right you have to be totally broken. And furthermore, working with insurance companies, you can only address the injury, not any underlying injuries or factors that are contributing.
At Active Edge we consider each patient’s unique injury history and combination of genetics, underlying and goals for their treatments wanted to make a patient-centered approach that looked at each patient as an individual whether this meant we needed to spend extra time with a patient or even less time in some cases that’s what we did. We also knew that a multimodal approach was best for our patients and their health goals, so that’s how we structured out treatments. A couple of years and a few thousand patients later, we realized that there were even less offices and health care providers taking this approach than we thought. Being in practice and utilizing insurance companies, it was clear to see why. One of the biggest violators we kept running into was the health insurance companies. We found that time and time again patients were denied benefits for which they paid because their pain was at a manageable level or the areas we were treated were unrelated to the injury. If you ask us, no one should have to live with pain if it can be resolved and often the source of the pain is not the same area as the injury. This became increasingly frustrating to both us and the patients who wanted to resolve their issues and were committed to doing so.
"This patient only has a 2/10pain" or "this is not a covered service" from someone behind a desk that has never been through any physician training. And when we did get the insurance staff physicians involved, our care patient’s care was approved and then later denied. We at Active Edge don’t see patients as numbers or statistics like the insurance companies, we see. Knowing that this is not only how we would expect to be treated we expected ourselves as physicians to treat our patients that way, it is only fair. This is why we do not take most major medical insurance plans because they have one interest in mind and it’s their bottom line and shareholders happiness.
We can’t blame them because they are trying to stay in business every office is structured this way. Not everyone in the health care fields/industry had the same patient-centered approach in mind.
