Meet Ganoderma Lucindum – The Medicinal Mushroom of Immortality

“We know that food is a medicine, perhaps the most powerful drug on the planet with the power to cause or cure most disease.”
-Dr. Mark Hyman

Hi, Dr. Monisha Mallik here and I would like to introduce you to the Ganoderma Series! Throughout the next few months, I will be diving deeper into the various benefits of this powerful mushroom. What is it? How can it be taken? What are the benefits? How many different types of diagnoses does it take care of and how? How can Active Edge help incorporate this into my health plan?

Origin of Ganoderma Lucindum

Ganoderma Lucidum is a medicinal mushroom native to Asia where it has held a longstanding reputation for being the “Mushroom of Immortality”. For over 2,000 years this mushroom has been utilized to help heal a long list of conditions due to its pharmaceutical, rather than nutritional, effects. Today, a different genus of Ganoderma Lucidum grow in different parts of Asia. In China, it is most commonly known as Lingzhi and in Japan, it is known as Reishi mushroom.

Healing Powers of the Mushroom

As mentioned before, Ganoderma Lucidum can provide relief to a whole host of ailments. In general, Ganoderma can help the body against viruses, fungi, bacteria and balance the body’s pH levels due to the fact that it is alkaline in nature. Ganoderma can also increase nitric oxide in the body, detoxify, boost immunity, and provide the body with vitamins, minerals, and over 100 antioxidants. People around the world have also found relief from skin ailments, headaches, increased focus and energy, and overall deeper sleep. Ganoderma also has the ability to block inflammation in the body, which can lead to altered function in the body from the musculoskeletal to physiological level!

Supplement Benefits of Ganoderma

Like other supplements and nutraceuticals, not all Ganoderma is created equal. Which means, not all Ganoderma is going to produce the results you desire, so the doctors at Active Edge recommend only one brand, Organo, sourced from Asia. The mushroom is put through a patented process wherein both shells that cover the spores of the Ganoderma Lucidum are cracked open to obtain the highest level of nutrient availability. Although Ganoderma Lucidum was initially reserved for the royal families years ago, it is now available to the general population in various forms: Supplements, Tea, Coffee, and Protein Shakes. The easiest way to incorporate Ganoderma Lucidum into your daily routine is through your morning cup of coffee or tea. Each cup contains 250 mg of this incredible herb, providing you with the nourishment and energy to get through your day. An added benefit to consuming the coffee and/ or tea? No afternoon caffeine crash! This herb truly does wonders for our day to day by canceling out the negative effects typical caffeine products have on the body.

So, whether you have begun your journey towards greater health, are in the midst of reaching your health goals, or are working on maintenance care, Active Edge can help incorporate Ganoderma Lucidum into your lifestyle. As we continue the discussion about conditions that Ganoderma can help heal, feel free to call our team at Active Edge for further information specific to your health goals!

About Dr. Monisha Mallik

My first Chiropractic experience was through my mom, who could hardly get to the office with lower back pain but hopped off the bed after her treatment, pain-free. My jaw hit the floor and I HAD to ask the doctor "How did you do that!?" Later on during competitive dance, I had my own problems which led me to explore chiropractic care more, focusing more on functional intervention and mechanical rehabilitation. I found this provided the greatest overall care for myself and my patients. I really enjoy getting to know my patients and learning about their history. It really allows me to see the potential for injury and diagnose how something that happened 10 years ago could be causing their issues now. Whether there are work-related injuries, sports, falling down, or a past surgery, we work together to take into account all health conditions to get you into optimal health. During my studies in Washington D.C. at the National University of Health Sciences, I was a member of the national Student American Chiropractic Association and served on the board for 2 years. I've pursued my education beyond school through seminars from Motion Palpation Institue, DNS and became certified in Rock Tape Performance Movement Technique. The McKenzie Method is my current study to learn more about extremities, lumbar, thoracic, and cervical.
